What is it called when someone uses the most popular brand name of a product to generalize it?

Sticky Notes are referred to as Post Its. Slow Cookers are referred to as Crock Pots etc...

Reply:well i know when it has to do with drugs its call a brand name. But the actually name is call the trade name. Like Motrin is really ibuprofen and Tylenol is really acetaminophen. Hope that helps
