Is your name one of the most popular? Did that make things confusing in class when you were in school?

You know, teacher calls one person and three or four turn up...

Is your name one of the most popular? Did that make things confusing in class when you were in school?
Gawd yes... even still can't go anywhere without a room full of Linda's. Even my co-worker is another Linda! Don't ask me why the powers that be put two of us on one shift, unless they intended to confuse evreybody.

When I was in 3rd grade there were several Linda's. The teacher just decided she was going to call us names she made up. I wanted to go by my middle name... which would have been fine. But, no, she just came up with an arbitrary "Jan." WTH?? Thats not my name! So whenever she called me Jan, I called her Max... her name was Mrs. Maxwell. It ended up with me being moved out of her class entirely. Old wench!

With apologies to anyone named Jan. Its a perfectly fine name... its just not mine.
Reply:Well your name must be popular, because it keeps poppin into my mind... come to think of it, so does your picture...sorry. seems im still smitten. Report Abuse

Reply:My name is Julian and when I was at school it was deemed as girly for some reason. Though it didnt affect me because Im known by another name...which is not really my name, nor an abbreviation...
Reply:Yeah, My name's Daniel, there were 4 Daniel's (including me) in my class in middle school.
Reply:There were at least six Kathy's in my high school PE class. The teacher could yell, "Move it, Kathy" and all six of us would take off. Very convenient for the teacher. The only time it was a problem was when I had a boss named Kathy, and I went by Kay for six months. Oh, and when I was part of a group, and there were two of us, and one guy just called us Catherine Blanc (she had blonde hair), and Katherine Noir (because I have dark hair). That actually worked well.

I've never regretted having a common name. My last name is uncommon, and the combination means I'm very google-able. My friends each come up with their own nickname for me, which is nice, too.
Reply:My name here is my nickname. It's spelled 'Patois" and pronounced "Puh- TWA". No one EVER calls on me.
Reply:uhmm.. i have a classmate named andrea nicole..

almost 7 in our class is named nicole.. and 9 are named andrea.. everyone of them stands up when there name is called... uhmm.. so,. teachers call them by their class numbers or their last names!
Reply:Try playin on a rugby team with 4 Pauls.. we all eventually got our own nicknames but managers still insisted on shoutin 'Paul' from the touchlines
Reply:No. I'm home-schooled. My name is Sarah...it's a quite common name.
Reply:no im one of the least popular, im Tanika. weird eh?
Reply:Yeah, and all the others spelled it Allyson or Alison or Alyson.
Reply:Nah, my name was only popular in the seventies... I'm called Karen, I do remember one history lesson when the teacher called out who had detentions and it was just Karen, Aaron and Darren... that was a little wierd.
Reply:At school, I was one of 3 Katharines. Our surnames meant we were the last 3 on the register, but we all had nicknames, and it was more fun than confusing or awkward
Reply:im not that person and it still pisses me off worse than ever
Reply:haha with a name like ann-sophie giersewski? i think not lol. until that name got too confusing for everyone to pronounce (damn polish heratige and french name) so my nickname became annie...and then it was one of the popluar ones and became cofusing! theres no escape! x
Reply:Definately.

Chris, Christina, Chrissy, Christine, Krista, Christy, etc...

Call one of us and all of us answered. It sucked when I was in school!
Reply:Yes, I have a popular name, or it was popular when I was young. There were at least 5 other girls with the same name. It caused confusion for the teachers until they decided to use nicknames and/or last initials for each of us.
Reply:I'm Ruth, my names not that popular within my age group, so I didn't have that problem at school, however I'm am getting married soon and I have exactly the same name as one of my sister-in-laws-to-be! We were asked by our mother in law to choose a variation so that she can tell us apart, but we have decided to stick to our own names and deal with the confusion! I am now Will's Ruth, she is Glyn's Ruth!!
Reply:yeah im called oy,and whenever anyone shouted me name everyone turned round
Reply:My first name is DAVID, and I have certainly found it causes confusion because David is such a very common first name.

Indeed when working on one ship some years ago, every one of the ship's officers was called "David". So when anybody called out that name such as to give me a bollocking or whatever they got an awful lot of respondents apart from me.
