What is the most popular Irish name?

for boys and girls...

What is the most popular Irish name?
Here they are...in order.

Boys: Sean, Jack, Conner, Adam, James, Daniel, Luke, Cian, Michael, Jamie.

Girls: Sarah, Emma, Katie, Aoife, Sophie, Ava, Grace, Ella, Leah, Ciara.
Reply:traditional names like Aoife,Eithne,Niamh,Maeve %26amp; Aisling are popular for girls. I know boys called Connor,Colm,Kieran,Aidan %26amp; Liam

Some names that are considered 'irish' in the USA/Canada areconsidered more 'stage Oirish' by the true Irish--such as Erin,Shannon,Shawna,Caitlin %26amp; Colleen. Much more common in the US than Ireland, though they are found on occasion in Ireland due to the influence of tv/film.

Caitlin is a particularly interesting one, as in North America it is always pronounced Kate-lynn. In Ireland it's the Gaelighe version of Kathleen %26amp; is pronounced something like 'Katchleen.'
Reply:According to http://www.behindthename.com/top/lists/1... which gives the top 100 names in Ireland for 2005, the most popular Irish girls' names are Aoife and Ciara and the most popular Irish boys' names are Sean and Conor.
Reply:Here's a link to what I presume houseoffunksville was referring to. It shows also the change in popularity of different names over the last 5 years.

Reply:No real irish person would spell sean with a W, and any irish girl with that name would be doomed to a miserable life of teasing.
Reply:Saoirse for a girl (meaning freedom) Or Siobhan (with a fada over the a) Sean or Seamus for a boy.
